Open invitation for colleagues that are willing to participate as panel member in a Delphi study on infravesical obstruction in boys.

    Dear colleague,

As a fellow my most important tutor has been Professor Tom de Jong. For decades urethral valves have been a prominent and much discussed subject in our department.
In our pediatric urology group, besides clinical work, I was asked to focus on research. In search for a relevant research topic the posterior urethral valve (PUV) still is a subject of great interest to us. It remains a fundamental issue in our field with many unresolved aspects.

To start new and sensible research on this topic we started at the basics by retrieving information from the literature. We found that knowledge is rather limited. Also it became clear that there is a lack of definitions and few gold standards in our diagnostics. All this makes doing proper research virtually impossible.

We are setting up a study aiming to reach consensus about a risk assessment tool for infravesical obstruction. It will be an international expert panel study following the methodology of Delphi (a ‘Delphi study’).

We need enthusiastic colleagues / pediatric urologists that are willing to participate. Through several rounds of online questionnaires we aim to reach consensus. It is important that all panel members complete the whole process (all questionnaires). The group of panel members should be heterogeneous (mondial, variability of convictions, different expertise etcetera). The workload for every panel member will be approximately 5 times (5 question rounds) 45 minutes.

I hereby would like to give the opportunity for Resnet colleagues to apply for the expert panel. Are you enthusiastic and willing to go for it? Than let me know!

Of course I can imagine that more information is required. This can certainly be requested.
Recently, during the ‘1st International Posterior Urethral Valves Study Group’ held on 26&27-11-21 (a congress organized by the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London) I was invited to present about this study.
Our 10 minutes pre-recorded presentation of this congress that should clarify the whole idea and study set up. It is large so it should be sent by ‘we transfer’.
Please let me know if you would like to receive this presentation.

For now I would like to conclude by wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
