Most Resnet information and tools are located on your Profile page. You can go to your Profile Page any time by clicking Profile from menu located at the top of your screen.
On your Profile Page you will find links to activity, profile, notifications, messages, following, followers, settings, and setting up your Profile Page.
Setting up your profile
- When you set up your user account, you will be asked for 1) your first and last names, 2) degrees(s), 3) Profession, 4) expertise key words, and 5) Institution.
Expertise key words:
- You can have up to 10 key words.
- They can be either a single word or a short phrase.
- They should describe your research interests in both general and specific terms
- Members will search on these words to identify potential collaborators, so be as complete as possible.
Institution:
- You can list multiple institutions.
- Include your institution’s address as members may search for collaborators in specific geographical areas.
After completing, your Profile Page is active and you can now add additional information. This information is needed to maximize the usefulness of Resnet.
From your Profile Page:
- Click on the Edit link
- Three boxes will appear below: Profile, Projects, Collaboration
- Click on Collaboration and indicate your collaboration abilities and/or needs. Select all that apply to the choices given. You also have the ability to add details. Adding details of what you can provide or what you need will allow members to better determine if there is a good match for collaboration. Click the Save Changes box before leaving the page.
- Click on the Projects box. This page allows you to list up to 6 projects you are developing or currently working on, and allows other members to view more detail on potential collaborative projects. Click the Save Changes box before leaving the page.
- Upload a profile picture and cover image by clicking on the links next to edit.
Finding Collaborators
You can look for collaborators by using the Profile Search function. Profile Search is located on the right side of all Resnet pages. You can search for a word or combination of words anywhere in a profile, by a member’s name, institution, or profession, or by key words or collaborative interests.
From your search results, you can:
- Follow a member by clicking the follow box to the right of their profile.
- View a member’s profile by clicking on their name. This will allow you to see their interests, projects, activities, who they are following, and who is following them.
Contacting Collaborators
You can contact other Resnet members by clicking on the Messages link on your Profile Page. From here you can compose, read, and track messages to and from other members.
- DO NOT send patient information in your message! The Investigator Resnet site is not approved for containing personal health information.
Highlighting Your Research Activities
You can highlight important projects and/or research activities to the community by going to Profile Page > Activity. Activity allows you to post updates, videos, or pictures. You can also view the activities of members you follow or mentions about you in other member’s posts.
Privacy
Setting Privacy Levels – Who can see your information can be set for most fields. If the field is set to “Everyone”, the information is available to anyone on the internet. If the field is set to “All Members”, only Resnet members can see the information. Some fields, such as first and last name, profession, and key words, are automatically seen by everyone.
There are two ways to change privacy settings; 1) by editing your Profile Page, and 2) from the Settings link.
- Editing your Profile Page: In editing mode, privacy settings are above or next to most fields on your Profile Page. Be sure to click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page before exiting.
- Settings is located under your profile picture on your Profile Page. Under Settings, click on Profile Visibility. You can set who can view all of your information from this page. Click “Save Settings” before exiting the page.
Exporting your Personal Information – If you would like to see what personal information is contained on Resnet, you can request to have your personal information exported to you by going to Profile Page > Settings > Export Data.
Managing Notifications and Emails
Notifications – You will automatically receive a notification in Resnet when someone new is following you or if someone has sent you a message. Notifications can be viewed from your Profile Page under the Notifications link.
Email – You can also receive an email notification for new messages, followers, or mentions. To adjust what email you receive, go to Settings > Email and select your preferences. Remember to Save Changes.
Managing your Account
Changing your Password:
You can change your password by going to Profile Page > Settings > General. Remember to Save Changes.
Updating your Email:
You can update your email address by going to Profile Page > Settings > General. You will need to enter your password to change your email address. Remember to Save Changes.
Deleting your Account:
You can delete your account by going to Profile Page > Settings > Delete Account.
